The Ubuntu system is running TightVNC-1.3.9 and I am trying to use the free edition of Real VNC viewer on windows 7 home premium . All the letters are showing up wrong. I have tried TightVNC Viewer with the exact same results. The “a” key is right but all the others seem to be off. It will show a letter but the wrong one.
The “S” key shows up as b and the “D” key shows up as “f”

Make sure you’re running similar versions – If you’re running the latest version of VNC Enterprise Edition viewer but the old free edition on Ubuntu, then this will likely be the cause. The keyboard handling was changed significantly in VNC EE 4.5.

What keys/letters are being sent incorrectly, and what versions are you running?

I have realVnc and connecting to ubuntu. When I type in open office, the wrong letters are showing up.

What exact version of VNC Viewer are you running? Check the “About” box.

The encryption box shouldn’t be greyed out, as this is before you’ve even attempted a connection..

“Connection Refused” means that you’ve connected to whatever IP/port that you specified, but that VNC Server was not running on it.

Double check that you’ve specified the correct port number?

I can’t get my Windoze 7 VNC Viewer 4 to connect to my RHEL 4.8 box running the vncserver. The Encryption box on start of the client is grayed out. Always get the:

unable to connect to host: Connection refused (10061)

But, my other Windoze XP laptop on the same net connects, to that same RHEL box, with VNC Viewer 4 just fine.

This shouldn’t be the case – what error are you getting when you can’t connect? It’s now fully tested on the latest release builds of Win7 Ultimate x64 and x86, and all known issues have been patched.

If in fact you think there’s a bug, email trial-support [at] realvnc.com with the details and they’ll get back to you.

It does work on RTM of W7 x86, but ONLY without encryption
Once the server is configured Encryption Always On, I can NO longer connect from same version 4.5.1 Enterprise viewer
