Resizing a VirtualBox VHD or VDI file on Mac OS X

Resizing a VirtualBox VHD or VDI file on Mac OS X

I recently created a Windows 8 VM using VirtualBox on my iMac and misjudged how much space I would need, however not being an experienced VirtualBox user I didn’t realise you wouldn’t be able to increase the VM size from within the GUI. After a quick google session I also found that the advice on resizing VirtualBox VMs was very Windows-centric, so I thought i’d post step-by-step instructions for all you Mac VirtualBox users our …

Excel 2010 & 2013: Insert / Data menus greyed out, can’t click on PivotCharts / PivotTables

Excel 2010 & 2013: Insert / Data menus greyed out, can’t click on PivotCharts / PivotTables

Help! That’s exactly what I felt like in this situation. I was working in Excel 2010 on a workbook with multiple sheets when I suddenly couldn’t interact with the Insert or Data menus (they were entirely greyed out), I also couldn’t interact with my PivotCharts at all. I spent half an hour scouring the Internet and reading that it may be to do with my Sharing or Protected Workbook options, but my workbook was neither …

Healthy snack food, delivered to your door?

A new service called Graze has been set-up, and allows you to order daily/weekly deliveries of a small amount of fruit, dried fruit, nuts and other healthy snacks, for a relatively small price (£2.99 per box). The snacks arrive in a single box, and you’re charged on the day that the food arrives (no mass payments). Looks like a really nifty idea to me for the person with a bit of …

This is to have succeeded.

I came across this recently, and it made me smile. To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life …

The Time Traveler’s Wife

I’ve been meaning to get around to reading this for a while and the opportunity arose when I was lent a copy. It’s an initially complex story, about an accidental time traveler (due to a genetic condition) who randomly jumps through time and meets younger/older versions of himself, and the woman he’s due to spend the rest of his life with. Although the summary may sound a little fantasy/sci-fi it’s written in an extremely down-to-earth …

An infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first one orders a beer. The second orders half a beer. The third, a quarter of a beer. The bartender says “You’re all idiots”, and pours two beers.

Make tea, Not war..

I was talking to my girlfriend last night and she suggested how the phrase ‘Make tea, Not war’ pretty much sums us up. I’d much rather we all had tea than war, if honest. She decided she wanted it on a t-shirt and googled on the off-chance that someone had already done it, and they had on Etsy. Incidentally the shirt seems to be sold out on Etsy since I bought one last night. I …
