I was trying to connect to a local (i.e. on the same domain) Hyper-V server for the first time from my laptop, using the Hyper-V Manager (which is included in the RSAT tools), and received the following error regarding permissions:



The solution in this instance was actually very simple, given that i’d installed the Hyper-V server using relatively default settings before joining it to the domain, by default only local and domain administrators have access to connect remotely and I was logged on to my standard user account.

Assuming you have a domain admin (or other administrative account with permissions to remotely connect to the Hyper-V box), you can run the Hyper-V manager as a different user without having to log off. Shift-rightclick¬†the Hyper-V Manager icon and you’ll see a new option to run-as a different user:
